East Northumberland Blue Dragons had one good team result and couple of rough ones in the 2009 OFSAA Cross Country Championships, held at Boyd Conservation Area under fantastic weather conditions Saturday.
The Blue Dragons' Olivia Dyer had a great race in junior girls, finishing 24th in the province, leading her team to a 13th place finish. Dyer's performance capped off a fantastic grade 10 season for her. Olivia Patton, a Midget-aged runner who was moved up to Junior at COSSA was their second finisher, placing 57th. Other team members were Carlee Collins(136th), Taylor Dibbits (178th) and Michaela Dagg (210th).
The Midget boys team had a really rough outing as they were 35th in the team competition. It was simply a case of a bad day to have a bad day. The team members ran into some difficulty as Chad Quinn was injured early in the race and failed to finish and Taylor Hoyle suffered from a debilitating cramp, causing him to nearly collapse- although he did finish. Their top finisher was Brennan Thompson, who managed a 120th placement. Riley Dagg was 179th, Kiefer Davies was 186th and Hoyle ended up 212th.
The Senior girls were hoping for better, and again, the course certainly won over them on this day. Their top runner was Lindsey Roth (115th), followed by Erin Salmon (132nd) , Emma Lafontaine (177th), Laura Howard (180th) and Holly Saliga in 192nd spot. Their team finished 30th overall.
