Rotary donates to food bank
The Colborne Rotary Club has one again stepped in to help the community. The club held its regular meeting on Monday in a new location at the Food 4 All warehouse in the Cramahe Industrial Park. The Rotarians presnted Rob O'Neil, Operations Manager, a cheque for $2,300 to support the operations of the food bank supplier which serves over 170 groups in Northumberland County. The money was raised at the Colborne 150th Celebration Golf Tournament on July 30 attended by Queen Victoria herself.
Rob O’Neil who is the mainstay of Food 4 All then thanked the Rotary Club of Colborne and explained some of the workings of his organization which opened its doors only five years ago.
Rob stated that over 170 groups access this warehouse that is funded by the United Way and Northumberland County. He stated that Food 4 All is not a food bank, but a supplier for the various food banks, providing items that are passed on to families that are in need.
Because of the large amount of items that come through this warehouse Food4All is able to share with other similar warehouses in Peterborough and Kitchener. This makes for an exchange of more and better items for all.
They also support the breakfast programmes through the schools and this year six new schools have joined the breakfast programme. Through a membership of $150 per year these schools have access to many items for breakfast plus other products that can assist them make life a bit better for their students.
Food 4 All will be moving to Cobourg, the former Kraft Building, probably in January, 2010. This will provide a larger area to service the Food Banks and allow the storage of more products. Rob said it is nice not to have to worry about funding, but rather continue to help the families in need. This past year between 25000 and 30000 meals have been provided to those in need.
