The Cramahe organising committee for the Olympic Torch Relay released this statement last week -
The Colborne Olympic Torch Relay Committee announced details of the Colborne leg of the Olympic Torch Relay today at a press conference held in downtown Colborne.
The Olympic Torch Relay entourage will arrive at 3:25 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 and will complete the run at 3:34 p.m. Upon arrival, Mayor Marc Coombs along with Cramahe Council, the Colborne Olympic Torch Relay Committee, Township staff and invited guests will hold a brief, celebratory welcome at the Colborne Legion. Then the first torchbearer will depart and follow the Colborne route along King Street East and then north on Percy Street to Park St. A total of 3 torchbearers will run the Colborne leg.
To keep waiting participants warm, Warm-up Centres will be available at the Colborne Legion, Friendship House, Presbyterian Church and United Church at Percy and Church Street. The municipal hall will also be open under normal operational hours. Signs will be outside the Warm-up Centre indicating their location.
The Colborne OTR Committee has worked hard over the last several months to organize the marketing and logistics for the event. Downtown Colborne now displays Olympic street banners and posters have been distributed throughout Cramahe Township and surrounding municipalities. Hundreds of Olympic stick flags will be handed out at the event to add to the spirit of celebration and to cheer on the torchbearers.
“We are really thrilled to have been selected as one of over one thousand communities across Canada to play host to a leg of the Olympic Torch Relay. This is an historic event
