Blessing Cupboard opens

First we bless the cupboard.

Then we cut the ribbon. Mayor Marc Coombs does the cutting while Sue Robertson, Jane Taylor, Glenda Quinn and Jane Mutton look on.

Most of the congregation gathered for the celebratory photo.

Now, back to work.

The ribbon was barely cut and the staff of the Blessing Cupboard in Prospect Missionary Church was already serving the first customers on January 10.

Rev. Barbara-Anne Ramer led the congregation of close to 100 in the blessing ceremony before Cramahe Mayor, Marc Coombs put the scissors to work. And then it was all business for the Cupboard which opens every Sunday morning after the regular service, and on alternating Tuesdays.

For many years it has provided for the needy and less fortunate in the community, allowing them maintain their dignity while supporting their basic and spiritual needs.

In her announcement of the opening of the handicapped accessible Blessin Cupboard, Rev. Ramer stated, "For over thirty years Prospect Community Church located at 75 King Street East in the beautiful village of Colborne has counted it a privilege to serve the community with food and clothing from our Blessing Cupboard.

With access to the Food Distribution Center, we have been able to feed hundreds of people per month."

The Blessing Cupboard had been located in the basement of the church which made it inaccessible for those unable to use stairs. That didn’t stop the Blessing Cupboard workers from running up and down the stairs to make sure those folks received the groceries they needed.

  1. Hey Prospect!

Thanks for making a tangible difference in your community. Healthy communities experience the gift of relationships & real-time help from one another. It's a clear demonstration that you are willing to "walk the talk" in following the example of Jesus. Well done! Joel Zantingh
