The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board will soon be building a new school on the grounds of the current Castleton Public School.
One of the final preliminary steps was passed at Cramahe Council on October 6 when Mayor Marc Coombs and Chief Administrative Officer, Christie Alexander, were given approval to sign a site plan for the school which is expected to cost close to $7 million.
The new two-storey school will have one entrance off Cemetery Rd. for buses and two entrances off Spring St.
The school will contain two science classrooms, four kindergarten rooms, a computer lab, a library, and a gym with a stage. An elevator will connect the two floors, making the entire building accessible.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new school will be held October 19 at 1:30 p.m.
The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPRDSB) awarded the contract on August 27, 2009 to build the new school which is scheduled to open in September, 2010. The $6,790,000 contract, awarded to Tass Contractors Inc. came in significantly higher than the estimated cost of $4.8 million.
