The party/dinner/dance/silent auction was just one of the numerous activities planned for this year as the two schools prepare to amalgamate into the new Northumberland Hills Public School this fall.
Five members of the two parent committees organized the January 30 night of fun. Kristin Dingman-Price, Mary Norton, Mike Filip, Michelle White and Principal Michele Adams were highly visible, ensuring everyone had a good time.
The tables were lined with a wide range of items in the silent auction. People could bid on everything from a side of beef to a patio slab. Barbies, gift baskets, trees, tools, and tickets to hockey games were all out there taking bids. Ms. Adams explained that all money raised would go toward new equipment at the school which is currently under construction. If $5,000 is collected she will have a smartboard installed in the library.
Ms. Adams was highly appreciative of all the effort which went into the evening. All items in the auction were donated by local businesses and families. The support was overwhelming. The Rotary Hall was donated by the township and food was sold to the group at cost. Staff and students created the decorations which festooned the hall.
Numerous other activities are taking place this year as the staff of the two schools prepare the students for the change.
The grade three classes are skating together on donated ice time at the Keeler Centre. The grade four-to-six classes, with assistance from some grade sevens worked together solving Mathlete problems in the South Cramahe gym. Grade sevens and eights from both schools got together before the January 30 event to learn some new dances.
Perhaps Mike Filip put it best when he welcomed everyone to the fabulous new community.
