Waterfront riders take pit stop

Holly Ferguson eases some tired muscles.
The 240 Waterfront Trail riders took a few minutes in Colborne on their way to Trenton on July 7. The riders from five provinces and six American states picked up snacks and worked out some of the kinks under the expert hands of massage therapists stationed in a tent in Victoria Square.

The second annual 720 km. Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour started on July 4 at Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake and will end on July 11 at the Quebec border where they will roll across the line to the music of a bagpiper.

She Does the City (Alex Bojarzin and Jake McGowan) provided some of the entertainment for the riders.

The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure Tour celebrates the new and expanded Waterfront Trail. The tour showcases waterfront communities, two world biospheres and promotes cycling, tourism, and active living in Ontario.

Cyclists on the tour will have an opportunity to see communities and parks, experience local food and entertainment, learn history, visit 86 wetlands, forests and beaches, and enjoy shops and unique local businesses.

The Great Waterfront Trail Adventure is organized by the Waterfront Regeneration Trust and its over 50 waterfront partners, including local municipalities, conservation authorities and community groups and is generously supported by: The Ontario Trillium Foundation, CIBC, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Mountain Equipment Co-op and Ontario Place

The Waterfront Regeneration Trust is a registered charity that co-ordinates a partnership of waterfront communities, conservation authorities, community groups and corporations dedicated to the completion, enhancement and promotion of the Waterfront Trail and Greenway.
