Cramahe Township will move ahead quickly with plans to improve its industrial park now that it has received a $424,932 grant from the Community Investment Fund of the federal government.
Northumberland-Quinte West MP, Rick Norlock, made the announcement September 8 at the HD Supply building before an audience of local business people and three members of Cramahe Council.
In making his announcement the MP said, "It is an important day for the local economy." The grant will bring construction jobs to the township and create infrastructure which will enhance future development in the newly expanded industrial park. The grant was one of 90 handed out in the province. Port Hope received one last week.
After thanking Cramahe Development Officer, Rebecca Goddard-Sarria for her work in obtaining the grant, Cramahe Mayor, Marc Coombs, outlined how the money will be used. Purdy Road will be upgraded to Elgin Street. The road into the new section of the industrial park will be completed. Landscaping will be completed at the corner of Purdy and Big Apple Drive. Lighting will be added as well.
Mayor Coombs noted that the work will benefit investment-ready developers and existing businesses. "We are thrilled with the funding. It will enable us to move forward with the industrial park."
The money is part of a $102 million investment by the federal government and does not require matching funds from the township.
In his press release, Mr. Norlock commented that the federal government is working to address the need for more industrial land capacity in Northumberland County.
