The federal government is offering infrastructure grants to not-for-profit groups. Northumberland-Quinte West,M.P. Rick Norlock made the announcement in an August 6 press release.
The money is for "shovel-in-the-ground" projects which will improve existing community facilities.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan has allowed for nearly $4 billion in funding toward the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund. Of this $1.5 billion has been allocated for Ontario, to be matched by provincial funds. Already $2 billion in funding is intended for shovel-ready projects in the province of Ontario, and the construction of these projects must be complete by March 31, 2009.
Funding is applicable to such projects as: temporary housing structures, community centers, community services and cultural infrastructure. Applications must be submitted by August 18, 2009.
