Heading back to visit former school friends after many years brings many surprises. People change; they don't look like the kids with whom you grew up. When it's all over you look back and try to put the dreams together with the realities. Sometimes they just won't fit.
Life somehow got in the way of those long-ago aspirations -sometimes to advantage, and often not.
And you never know who you will run into - will the class bully be there, and what about the drama queen? Whatever happened to your best friend?
Fifty years ago Stephanie Mutton (McMurray) and Beryl Dickens (Bryant) sat astride the cannon in Victoria Square. Through all the intervening years Stephanie kept her copy of that black and white photo taken when the two girls were students at Colborne High School.
Both women showed up at the 2009 reunion, probably the last one to be held for the former school. And they climbed once more on that cannon for a reprise of the one taken when their lives and hopes and dreams lay ahead of them.
