Accessible Service Plan done?

Township Accessibility Coordinator Natalie Moroz-Cornell thought the accessibility customer service training was done for the township when she made her presentation to Cramahe Council on December 1.

That was before Deputy Mayor Jim Williams asked if the members of Community Policicng should take the training.

The response from township CAO, Christie Alexander, was a definite yes.

The training is required to conform with provincial legislation governing accessibility standards for customer service.

Municipal services must be provided in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities. Service to the disabled must be integrated with other municipal services.

To accomplish that, Ms. Moroz-Cornell has provided employee training to all paid staff. They learned how to deal with persons with various disabilities and assistive devices and how to help them access municipal services.

The first sessions were held in April, 2008. The last was on December 1, 2009 prior to the council meeting.
