RazzMaJazz goes to Queen's Park

A tradition that began in 1989 continues today at ENSS.

Twenty years ago the fledgling RazzMaJazz choir was invited by the local MPP, Joan Fawcett, to sing at Queens' Park. Choirmaster, Bruce Tonkin was the director then, and he continues today. For all of those 20 years he has guided choirs at the local secondary school. For many of them the choir did not go due to travel restrictions.

But the current MPP, Lou Rinaldi, invited them back a few years ago - and they've been regulars ever since.

Mr. Tonkin says the day is always an event. The choir sings in a central area of the legislative building. It's all decorated and festive. When people in their offices hear the sounds of the choir drifting through the corridors, they open up their doors to soak it all in.

The day is an opportunity for urban relatives of choir members, and alumni to catch them briefly. The concert is one in a long list of gigs for the singers this year. Many of the choir members will participate in Broadway Night in January. There are festivals to attend, and this year the school is putting on a musical.
