Durham Street to be repaired

Cramahe Township will receive $233,200 of the $350,000 needed to complete the reconstruction of Durham Street as recipients of the Infrastructure Stimulus Funding Program were announced today. $116,600 will come from the provincial government and $116,600 from the federal government.

Cramahe Township Chief Administrative Officer, Christie Alexander, stated on June 5 that the township will pay for its one-third share with reserves in the roads account.

Rick Norlock, MP for Northumberland-Quinte West and Lou Rinaldi, MPP for Northumberland-Quinte West were on hand Friday morning at the Northumberland County building in Cobourg to announce the $37,436,270 in joint federal and provincial funding that will go toward several infrastructure building projects across the County. Together with funded applicant contributions, the total investment in local infrastructure improvements in the riding under this intake exceeds $56,000,000.

“It is great to know that we will be able to move forward with the reconstruction of Durham Street and we are appreciative of the federal and provincial governments’ major assistance in making this project happen. We look forward to completing this project in 2009,” stated Mayor Marc Coombs in a press release issued by the township on Friday.

The Durham Street Project is expected to commence this summer with completion expected in early fall.

In a separate press release the two elected officials stated:

Along with our Federal and Municipal partners, this matched funding equals over $56 million dollars in supported endeavours. Over the past year, the Municipalities, the Province and the Country have seen unprecedented economic times and funding like this creates a much needed injection of capital into our local economies.”
