Cramahe resident helps overcome speaking fears

Public speaking is most people’s number nne fear, yet it’s something that nearly everyone will have to do at some point. Heather Stubbs has been performing all her life and has overcome that terror. She feels she can can help others have a better experience when speaking in public.

Mrs. Stubbs has created a four-hour workshop called “SPEAK UP! How to Talk With Confidence So People Listen”.

Effective speaking is all about energy. She teaches participants how to use energy to build self-confidence, and how to change the way they see the audience. Instead of being a victim of a bully, the speaker welcomes a group of friends. Where did the fear go?

Once self-confidence has been addressed, participants are ready to learn all the stage presence skills Heather has learned in her career as a singer and actress – body carriage, voice production, clear diction, eye contact. She knows how to connect with an audience both intellectually and emotionally.

She's presented the four-hour workshop in numerous places – including Queen’s Theological College in Kingston – to rave reviews. She decided this summer to extend the four-hour format to five, two-hour classes to give participants more opportunities to practice speaking in front of the group.

Class size is limited, so it is wise to reserve space early.

Classes are on Thursday evenings, July 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Peter’s Anglican Church Annex, 240 College St., Cobourg.
Cost is $150.
