Baxter fund gets a boost

Our readers continue to provide us with the snippets of news that make your reading interesting. This piece came from Doug Thompson, one of the people working to keep the memory of W. R. Baxter alive. Mr. Baxter was the principal of Colborne High School when it closed in the 1960's. He is well-remembered by those who attended the school.

Mr. Thompson's story follows:

Following a very successful soldout Colborne High School Reunion Banquet held at the Keeler Center on August 1st, the organizing committee called one last meeting to finalize the records and determine any profit. In a recent get together, the committee learned that the event had generated a operating surplus of $1755.00. The organizers were delighted to be able to turn this amount over to the W.R. Baxter Scholarship Trust Fund.

The W.R. Baxter Scholarship Fund presents a annual reward to a graduating student of East Northumberland Secondary school, who has achieved the highest mark in Grade 12 Physics and is continuing on to a post-secondary education. The Scholarship will pay $2000.00 in 2010, one of the largest rewards offered through the East Northumberland Secondary School.
