Transportation initiative gets gas tax funding

A new accessible two-day-a-week bus service was established earlier this year for residents of the townships of Cramahe and Alnwick/Haldimand.

Northumberland-Quinte West MPP, Lou Rinaldi announced in an October 7 press release that the province is now funding the Monday and Thursday project with the two cents per litre of gas tax revenues which it provides to the municipalities. The total value of the grant to the bus service is $3,000.

The Ontario government hopes this initiative helps take more vehicles off the road and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In his press release, Mr. Rinaldi says, “Our gas tax funding is supporting a new specialized transit service for persons with disabilities, seniors and families without transportation options. Local residents can take advantage of this new service within their communities.

Cramahe is the 92nd transit system to receive provincial gas tax funding for public transit.
