The former registry office, now the home of the Colborne Art Gallery and the Colborne heritage exhibit, will soon be completely wheelchair accessible.
Cramahe Township Chief Building Official, Natalie Moroz-Cornell reported to Council on October 6 that a slight addition of cement along the west side of the building will make access to the front completely level.
A 26-inch interior door will have to be widened to allow entry from the front to the rear of the building. Ms. Moroz-Cornell proposed a way to maintain the aesthetics of the interior while increasing the width to 34 1/2 inches.
Because the building is a designated building, staff will proceed with getting the work done only after consulting with Heritage Cramahe. The Ontario Heritage Act requires that anyone making changes to a heritage building must receive permission of the municipality. Ms. Moroz-Cornell explained that the township must ask itself for permission.
Council agreed to allow her to seek quotes for the work. The best time to do the interior work is during the gallery shutdown in January
